Here is one of my little harmless pleasures: the Spy School series by Stuart Gibbs! Back in Covid times, I used to teach kids online. I was introduced to this series by one of my students. At the time, Gibbs had already published six books in the series – now it’s up to fourteen!
The story follows 14-year-old Ben Ripley, who is recruited to join a school that educates young people on how to be spies in the CIA. It is fanciful and action-packed, with each book taking place within days of the previous one ending. Ben and his friends have solved crimes at school, at camp, on the seas, in Alaska, in Mexico, in London, and more. I love listening to the audio books because the narrator Gibson Frazier is amazing at portraying all the characters’ voices. Each book short and digestible, and teaches lessons on environmentalism, cyber security, pollution and more. I just love them!
